Lara Savas, PhD

Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston

Dr. Savas is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Public Health in Houston (UTSPH). She holds a PhD in epidemiology, with additional pre- and post-doctoral training in cancer prevention and control research at the UTSPH Cancer Education and Career Development Program, and postdoctoral training as a Primary Medical Care Research Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Health. Her primary interests include the application of epidemiologic methods to study health and healthcare disparities in disadvantaged populations, with a focus on developing, implementing and evaluating cancer prevention and control programs targeting vulnerable populations, including cancer survivors. An area of specific interest and experience includes using lay health worker and navigator models to implement community-based cancer prevention programs.
