Ralph DeBerardinis, MD, PhD

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Genetics, Children’s Medical Center Research Institute, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas

Dr. DeBerardinis is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Genetics in the Children’s Medical Center Research Institute at UT Southwestern. He was born, raised and trained in the Philadelphia area, obtaining M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000.  He is a board-certified pediatrician and medical geneticist specializing in the care of children with inborn errors of metabolism.  Dr. DeBerardinis’ research focuses on metabolism in cancer.  His laboratory uses metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis, and metabolic imaging to understand which pathways stimulate cancer cell survival and growth, which pathways differentiate normal cells from transformed ones, and which pathways might safely be targeted to kill cancer cells.  The overarching goal of the laboratory is to identify new ways to exploit cancer metabolism to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.
